Hurdle Making

Cleft gate hurdles are made from wood such as chestnut and ash which are cleft and worked on a shave horse to create a ‘gate’ style hurdle.

Wattle hurdles are generally made from hazel and willow which are woven through stakes to create panels.

Hurdles were traditionally used to provide temporary pens for livestock and are now popularly used for fencing.
